I’ve been working on this one since mid-summer and I’m so pleased it’s finally finished.
It is intended for a co-worker who got married in September – I take comfort in knowing the last quilt I made for a wedding was delivered 5 years after the event :).
I forgot to grab a photo of the back and I will really try to add it tomorrow (but we all know what usually happens with that). I used a quilt-as-you-go method for this one because I wanted to echo quilt the “rings” and I couldn’t see managing a large quilt on my domestic machine to accomplish this with good results.
The pattern is from a book called Rainbow Quilts for Scrap Lovers by Judy Gauthier and it was very interesting to put together. The method is almost origami-like as squares are trimmed to create quadrangles and then folded before being sewn together in rings.
The finished quilt will be presented to the recipient next week and I hope she likes it – she is a quilter herself and we have had many conversations about the modern versus traditional aesthetic. I think that this take on rings is a nice modern alternative to the traditional wedding ring quilt which will suit her taste.
In any case, this is a finish (finally!) so I am linking up to Finish-it-up-Friday over at CrazyMomQuilts. And as we are heading into the holiday season, hopefully a few more finishes to follow!
